Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City cannot afford the money to compete in four competitions.
City face Cardiff City in the FA Cup, and are already in the final of the EFL Cup, and also face Basel in the UCL.
Aymeric Laporte is on the club’s radar, in a bid to bolster their defence, but Guardiola does not think it will do.
“If you are in four competitions, fighting to be there, sometimes you have to be lucky in terms of injuries or you have 22 top players to compete in all competitions,” Guardiola told reporters.
“Today, to have 22 players you need – people maybe don’t believe me – the money we don’t have.
“To compete at a high level in four competitions you need 22 top players and today the 22 top players are so expensive. You cannot survive [spending in that manner].”
