Emery played for the Ottawa Senators, Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks, and Philadelphia Flyers. He earned the nickname “Razor” for his personality and play style, which was sharp and aggressive.
Emery was a talented goalie that was drafted in 2001 by the Ottawa Senators. He won the Stanley Cup Championship with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013. According to ESPN,
Emery drowned while swimming in Lake Ontario. The Hamilton Police Department claim that Emery was reported missing around 6 AM on Sunday in Hamilton Harbour.
The harbor is south-west of Toronto, on the westernmost section of Lake Ontario. His body was found close to where he was last spotted swimming. The last time Emery played in the NHL was in the 2014-15 season for the Flyers.
The Blackhawks released an official statement on the passing of Emery. “The Chicago Blackhawks organization was deeply saddened to hear of Ray Emery’s passing,” the team stated. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. The Blackhawks will fondly remember Ray as a fierce competitor, a good teammate and a Stanley Cup champion.”
