Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld, who has been a big target for Manchester United under Jose Mourinho, has cast doubts over his future at the club by admitting he is unsure if he will still be at the club next season, but former Red Devils’ centre half, Nemanja Vidic does not want him to join his former club for this obvious reason.

The 30-year-old’s contract was extended to 2020 at the turn of the year after Tottenham triggered a clause, but in doing so also activated a £26million release clause in the summer transfer window. Alderweireld has been an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans this season, featuring 38 times in all competitions and any attempts to prise him away is likely to be met with opposition from the club.

However, speaking ahead of Belgium’s European Qualifiers against Russia and Cyprus, the defender chose to remain coy when asked about his long-term future. ‘There’s a lot to play for this season. And in the end I have a year contract left at Spurs, so I don’t look further than this season. Other things I don’t know. I am very happy at Spurs, so we will see what the future brings,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘I still feel very fit. I think I played a lot of minutes this season so I showed that I am fit – I don’t feel 30, I feel younger. So as I said, I am very happy and I just try to watch game-by-game. This season there is a lot to play for so I will give my best for that.’
Alderweireld, 30, has been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, having been a target for Manchester United last season.
Red Devils legend says ‘I’d like to see Toby Alderweireld at Manchester United but they have enough defenders’: Reds legend Nemanja Vidic says the former club should sign midfielders in the summer. Manchester United should focus on signing a midfielder rather than a central defender, according to the legendary defender.

Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, 30, has been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford. The Belgium centre-back was a target last summer and he has a £26million release clause in his contract. ‘What I see is, if you want to be in the Champions League next season and challenge for the Premier League, you have to strengthen the midfield.
‘You need that depth in the midfield area. In defence they already have five players, so they can rotate, and it seems like they’re doing well.’ United are tracking Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who is a free agent at the end of the season.
