The new Windows 10 May 2019 Update comes with a new light theme and a brighter default background for the desktop view. This tutorial will show you how you can activate this new theme and get a brighter look at your desktop.
In order to enable the light theme, Go to Settings. While in the Settings window, click Personalization, next you click on Colors. Another way you can quickly get to Personalization on your Settings is by right-clicking on your desktop and then selecting “Personalize” or you can press Windows+I to open the Settings and then click “Personalization”.
After you have done this, you’ll see a box titled, “Choose your color” on the Colors panel. Click on that box and then select “Light”.
Note that for you to be able to select this theme, your PC must have the May 2019 Windows 10 Update called the Windows 10 version 1903. This option does not exist for older versions of the Windows 10.
If you happen to be using a former Windows 10 and you want your default view to be a dark taskbar with light apps, what you want to do is to select “Custom” after which you set your Windows mode to “Dark”. Then you set your default app mode to “Light”. You can also select “Dark” in the color list for a dark desktop which has dark File Explorer windows.
In this particular panel you can either decide to make your windows have coloured window title bars, your choice.
If you were using the Windows 10 default desktop background before installing the update the background will be automatically updated to a new one. However, if you happened to be using a custom desktop wallpaper, the upgrade will not change you background even after you’ve installed it.
If you want to use the Windows 10 shiny background for your desktop, go to Settings, and then Personalization > Background and there you will find it under “Choose Your Picture”.
If for any reason you were not able to find it in that location, click “Browse” and then go to C:\Windows\\Web\4K\Wallpaper\Windows and then double-click the img0 file that is compatible with your desktop resolution.
The new light theme affects parts of Windows such as the taskbar, the Start menu, notification popups, and context menus. The only downside is that it will not affect third-party Windows applications.
